5 stars for Dr Calhoun. 0 stars for Baptist Primary Care North. I love Dr Calhoun she is incredible. I have loved seeing her over the last 8 years but unfortunately the office staff are terrible. She is patient, kind and caring and everything you want in a doctor. The office staff though are such a significant barrier to treatment that I’ve decided to look elsewhere for a doctor. The front desk staff are consistently rude and the medical assistants can’t be bothered to put orders in correctly then offer 0 apology for causing your prolonged suffering and wasting your time repeatedly. I had a message from the Dr that they would call me the following day with lab orders. 8 days later and I am still going back and forth with the office about actually sending the order. Meanwhile I have been suffering 8 days longer than I needed to. Dr Calhoun is fantastic but you should plan to take a full day off work to come to this office. Baptist over schedules so it’s not uncommon to not see the doctor until 3 hours after your appointment time. I have overlooked the ineptness of this staff for years because I love the doctor but after the staff here prolonged my suffering I won’t come back. An 8 year patient doctor relationship thrown in the trash because the office staff can’t be bothered to care about you like a human being.
I could say a lot [not so positive] about Baptist (or their Records management, ShareCare). However, as this review is for Dr. Calhoun, she is the absolute best! I've been with since before 2015 (can't remember the exact year). I hated to have to leave her, but I needed to change insurances. She was also the pediatrician for my boys from birth until this year. She listens, I don't feel rushed, even when running behind; she always gives me the same attention she likely gave the patient before me. Dr. Calhoun's office/team has been great about working me, or my sons in when a same day or next day appointment was absolutely needed. She respected when I wanted to try more homeopathic routine along side or before going the western medicine route for certain problems - I never felt like she just quickly prescribed prescriptions just as a 'fix'. She was always consistent about ordering tests to investigate before just throwing a medicine at me. Thankfully, I never had any complex medical issues, but her bedside manner and thoroughness was exactly why I wanted her as my pediatrician. She responds to communication in a timely manner, notifies of test results just as well, and her nurses are kind, understanding, and helpful, especially Nurse Amber, whom we had the most contact with over the years. I highly recommend Dr. Calhoun. HOWEVER, if you aren't a patient person and don't understand the inherent dynamics of medical offices, you may want to look elsewhere. I think (since I left end of August) the office has relocated to where Office Depot used to be in the shopping center as World Market. The previous current location was very dated, cramped, and not very kid-friendly so it was a bit of hassle to navigate the back area with a double stroller when I had to use one and sometimes I felt my littles were a 'bother' to others when they started getting age-appropriately chatty. It isn't a pediatrician office, she's the only one to my knowledge at that office that can see kids & adults anyway, so I get it.
Everyone in my family sees Dr. Calhoun. I started seeing her when I was 19 and am so grateful for her care. My mother has been going through cancer treatment and Dr. Calhoun texts my mother to check in on her and will review her charts with my mothers others doctors whenever she needs. Whenever I go to see Dr. Calhoun I know I may need to wait a bit but I know that’s because she isn’t rushing people out the door and takes time to understand what someone’s needs are and will answer each and every one of my questions. I am so grateful for the amount of care she shows me and my family. There are not many primary care doctors like her.
Dr. Calhoun has been taking care of my wife and I for 35+ years here in Mandarin. She has been a God send for my family. I have recommended her to friends and family as well. Thank you Doc!!
I’ve been a patient of Dr.Calhoun for 25+ years. Always very attentive, discusses her plan of action for whatever the case may be. Friendly, staff in office as well is wonderful. Yes, the wait can be long at times, but it is always worth it to feel like you have been well taken care. Love Dr. Calhoun! Miss you!
