If you are looking for a special birthday cake that tastes so good that you are sure to come back for seconds and thirds!?! This is the place for you!! I was recently shopping around for a birthday cake and this adorably cozy cafe caught my attention with their flyer at the window. I walked in and ordered a salted caramel chocolate cake without much expectations.... The results were beyond A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! I am so happy I came across this place! The cake was beyond delicious and so well decorated and made with such care and amazing quality! A chocolate cake drizzled with caramel and iced with salted caramel buttercream, what a delightful combination!!! The owners were very friendly, helpful and beyond accommodating! Overall amazing people to do business with or just to have a friendly conversation! It was a great pleasure meeting you both! Wonderful family-operated business! You just got yourself a happily returning customer! 5 Star Service!!!! Thank you so much!
Really good coffee and pastries! We had a latte and a double espresso, and the coffee was absolutely delicious. The blueberry muffin and chocolate walnut merengue were also top notch! Good prices.
My wife, daughter and I came here on a Sunday morning for a cup of coffee and a quick bite. There wasn’t a soul inside other than the older man at the counter, who may be the owner or manager. When we ordered, he mumbled back and forth and seemingly didn’t understand our relatively simple order, which was a bagel, egg and cheese sandwich and a PBJ on a bagel. My wife also got an iced coffee drink. The man at the counter had an attitude with us the whole time, especially after my wife asked for an iced coffee rather than the hot coffee he served. He was huffing and slamming doors and dishes, and it was really unnerving. The most egregious part was the cost. For the above three items, this man actually charged $31. I didn’t even bother to argue with him and just paid the tab. There’s no way we weren’t overcharged, but I’m equally certain he would have resisted any attempt to examine the bill or gotten angrier… over nothing. We didn’t say anything or do anything to this man other than place the order and return the hot coffee, which was his mistake. The whole atmosphere was uncomfortable, and I will strongly recommend no one visit Old Cup cafe. You will be ripped off, or retaliated against, and you will not enjoy the experience. Places like this need to just go out of business, and I can’t imagine they’re long for this world with so many better and more affordable spots in Avondale. Head to Southern Grounds and avoid Old Cup at all costs.
My wife ordered a House Brew. It was over $6 with tax and I thought he must have mistakenly charged us for an Americano. I clarified the price and he said $5.99. I said for a house brew? Really? He angrily told me I could find cheaper coffee at Walmart if I wanted. Please note that the House Brew price was missing from the menu board. In fact, it was the only price missing and the Americano was noted at $5.99, which is traditionally more expensive than drop coffee. I suppose you could give this man your money, but I imagine there are more deserving businesses who operate with kindness.
I love this place. The coffee was amazing and the blueberry muffin was delicious! As a special treat, we met a gentleman that stops in every day to eat. He told us the shop was a post office long ago. We will definitely be back. Also, you can special order cakes. The owner's wife's makes them and the ones I saw were beautiful.😊
