Nana Teresa's Bake Shop created the wedding cake of our dreams. Not only was it absolutely beautiful but it tasted delicious too! This shop is not afraid of a challenge, they brought to life our fun idea to have our dog taking a “bite” out of the cake. I mean, we were just obsessed with the cake and the guests absolutely loved it! They are a joy to work with, the cake was seriously incredibly beautiful and their attention to detail is beyond. We also had gluten free cupcakes from them and I believe they do gluten free cakes too! We included a cannoli tower too - and one of our guests said the cannoli was so good they accidentally ate the pastry paper that came with it LOL. We could not agree more, they were a highlight and such a fun touch! If you want a bakery that is talented, thoughtful, and genuinely lovely to work with, this is the one.
If you choose to stay from tradition and convention, you may very well break functional fixedness and recreate the wheel. That is what Mark and Teresa do with the kouign amann: flipping Breton tradition on its head with innovative prowess; rather than a pan-sized slab or the modern individual pastry folded into itself, they bowl the kouign amann into a host for myriad fillings, customizations and flavor profiles. And the pastry itself? Magnificent. No, it does not have the Brittany-typical aggressive lamination; but it oozes buttery, flaky luxury in the form of stoic, moldable comfort like no other. Are there *technically* better kouign amanns? Sure. But do any of them have a individualism, innovation and moldability that Nana Teresa's do? Hardly. Only thing finer that this magnum opus of boulangers anywhere are the heads of the table: kind, benevolent, ungreedy, accomodating; the finest marriage of entrepreneurial spirit and humanity interlaced with raw, unvarnished soul, intrinsic goodness, and limitless grace. Nana Teresa is home away from home. It is our go-to for solace interwoven with quality. No matter how charming and wonderful, it would have not amounted to this much without the two engines that run this machine. Yet again, already counting the days to our next visit.
While strolling on Amelia Island, we found this little bakery. The cookies and bakery items are absolutely delicious. 100% recommend! My son loved the oatmeal raisin cookies, and I loved the apple cinnamon walnut coffee cake....Best ever! There are so many more items I wanted to try, but I had to practice self-control. If you're in the area, this is a must try! You won't be disappointed. The service is also excellent.
Food: The bakery presented a delightful assortment of cakes, pies, pastries, ice cream, coffee, and various beverages. However, it's important to mention that there was no sugar-free coffee flavor option available. We opted to share a coconut key lime pie along with a bottle of water in the cozy yet charming dining area. Key lime is a flavor we frequently enjoy, but we had never tried it with coconut before. The quality and taste of the pie rivaled those we’ve savored in Key West. Although the slice was moderate in size, it was bursting with flavor, making it perfect for sharing and satisfying our afternoon sweet cravings. Additionally, we decided to take home a carrot cake and an almond croissant. The layers of the carrot cake were moist and rich in flavor, making it one of the best we've had in quite some time. The icing was shelf-stable, resulting in a less sweet and less cream cheese-heavy flavor than we usually encounter, but it achieved a delightful balance. The almond croissant was flaky and fresh, adorned with toasted almonds and filled with the same cream as the carrot cake icing, which was a pleasant surprise for those not looking for almond paste. Service: We arrived after the weekend rush and were warmly greeted at the door by a single employee at the counter. He was very knowledgeable about the offerings and provided a wealth of helpful suggestions. The owner also emerged from the kitchen, radiating warmth and Atmosphere: The shop was bright and cheerful, featuring multiple cases of prepared items, a freezer stocked with ice cream selections, a cooler for drinks, and a coffee station complete with all the essentials to customize your brew just the way you like it. The small space offered a few cozy tables and chairs, allowing guests to enjoy their selections indoors.
We absolutely loved our cake for our wedding — it was exactly what we were looking for and tasted just as good as it looked. The bakery team was also incredibly kind and easy to work with, truly some of the sweetest people. Everything came together perfectly, and we’re so grateful they were part of our wedding day.
