I just called up there to see if Mission House just gives their clothes away to the folks around Jacksonville. She said yes and I was like perfect. Then she asked me what kind of clothes I had and I told her I had women’s clothes and then she proceeded to tell me she was looking for specific clothes and specific sizing. I was trying to explain to her that I have leggings, sweatpants, some shirts, there are some dresses like spring dresses, I have some boys clothing from my son that has grown over the last few years. And I couldn’t even ask her where to drop them off because she was too concerned about what sizes they were and what they were. I’m trying to give you clothes and some of them still have tags on them. If I were an organization, I would be most thankful and accept anything because anyone out on these streets could use some clothes. I ended up telling her I was going to take my clothes somewhere else because I just could not believe all the questions I was getting. I don’t know if she thought I was gonna be dropping off prom dresses or what, but I am completely mind blown. Even the boy clothes that I have women could wear them. Because she did say she did not take boys clothes. Like I couldn’t even get a word in she just kept talking over me. Like his sweatpants and old T-shirts. Again, there are some nicer clothes that I guess could be used towards an interview but for the most part, they’re nice clothing and they’re just regular clothes. I am just totally in disbelief right now. They’re supposed to be out here to help the community. I was trying to find an organization that I could literally give my clothes to because I don’t want them to be resold. It’s already hard enough out here and was just simply calling for a couple things, but I couldn’t even get a word in edgewise.
One thing these "customers" can use as much as the food is plain ole water. They're all dehydrated. Provide them with some large disposable cups and get it yourself water. Then tell them to drink at least 3 cups before eating. They'll feel 10 x better.
Giving. Loving. Caring. Kind. It’s what Mission House stands for. The people at Mission House are in a league of their own. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️stars all the way. They give to the people who are less fortunate, down on their luck and just need comfort. This place is a warm blanket on a cold night. The world needs more people like this to serve.
Very friendly staff, we really enjoy volunteering here! The folks that come for dinner are all very friendly and so appreciative. My daughter is also able to help and we are thankful for the opportunity to give back to the community.
I volunteered to help in Kulik’s closet, providing bath towels, clothes, and hygiene products to those who came there for a meal and to shower. The closet was well organized and easy to pull materials from quickly, and it was a blessing to meet people and help them.
