We wanted to camp where the palm trees grew and was not disappointed! Primative campsite with porta a potty available, no running water at this time. One lonely possum decided to visit the campsite and left us alone. Bring bug spray! Follow the campsite signs the park provides - Google directions are backwards but will get you to the same location, however the road is very narrow and would be difficult to meet incoming traffic.
Quite a nice forest and campground. Portable bathroom on site. However you can still hear the roar of the nearby interstate not the peace and quiet of your typical park and campground. This space we stayed was wide open and requires a reservation. Roads in and out were a bit rough and long to get to the spot. There’s a nice fire ring with seating and picnic tables. Very little sky views with a good tree canopy made difficult to find a good spot to setup tent without risk of falling debris, which wasn’t an issue during our stay. We rode in and out on the bike with a nice size group along the power line corridor which map was muddy and pretty beat up. I understand there’s easier access by car from the main road.
If you like to be one with nature and explore no matter if you see amazing wildlife or not. This is a nice Forrest to explore. Many no-vehicle trails and all are numbered. Easy to travel dirt roads with road name signs (only one sign doesn’t match good street name). A few roads can be rough and muddy but fine for trucks and 4WD. Small camping area with non-potable water access and port-potties. Wish it had good acres to the river but it doesn’t so minus one star. Parking in front off Double Gate.
What an amazing place to camp just ride outside of St. Augustine. Went with a youth group at the group campsite and had a brilliant time. There were hikes just around the campground and we did not have anybody around so the boys could be as loud as they wanted! Would highly suggest this place for a camping adventure
really great place to get out and hike this is a huge forest with lots of different numbered and named roads and trails great for exploring
