While visiting the area, it fishing guide told us of a great like place - tada, La Sureña. A friend had told him about this place and had since visited multiple times for the special of the day. We took the recommendation. I could have stopped with the choripappas - very crispy fries with chorizo and queso dip. Each bite was perfect. The fries soaked up the fat from the chorizo and kept their texture. 😁 The salsas they brought out for them were nice additions. I really liked the red - it had a little kick but the flavor was a nice compliment. Then on to the tacos. These are traditional in style and may be a bit different from what you have had before. Carne asada, al pastor, veggie, lingua, and cabeza. Each was great in their own right. My wife seems out lingua and loved it. The cabeza reminds me of prime rib. The al pastor was subtle in sweetness. All while the (freshly made I assume) corn tortillas held together (didn't crumble) while presenting great flavor. When your done eat, take a spin thru the store. Huge selection of dried chilies, chorizo in the meat case, and we got Manteca for biscuits.
The tacos are delicious - especially the cabeza cow cheek taco. My boyfriend loved his asada burrito as well. I go here whenever I'm in town. Oh, and the green sauce is great! Don't miss it.
This place has the BEST tacos. The staff are always so friendly and helpful. They have amazing specials every day. We always order too many tacos, but they never go uneaten! If you are in the mood for some authentic mexican food, come to La Surena! They also have a super cool grocery section that my kids love to explore and get a few goodies!
An unknown sleeper hit in Amelia Island. An interesting combination of mexican restaurant & convenience store offering Latin treats, candies, sodas & even a butcher shop. Great tacos & the best nachos on the island!
Very good Mexican restaurant in Fernandina. We had chicken quesadilla (4 pcs 12.50), pollo asado (big serving, 14), tamarind juice (4.50). We're seated and served promptly. No cafe espresso. Big place with adjoining grocery store. Serves local juices and fountain sodas.
