Such a sweet culture at this St. Aug classic. Tasty food, delicious drinks, plenty of seating. Make it a point to point to drop by! Your taste buds will appreciate the Screaming Peacock Coffee they serve.
We went in on Sunday Morning. We were made to wait before we could order because the lady at the front counter was making coffee for someone else. When she finally finished making coffee for the other customers, she took our order. In the mean time, a huge line of ten people had accumulated behind us. We literally ordered two coffees and a breakfast sandwich and toast. This was $40.00 and change. Then we had to wait while she rang up the next ten people in line before she made our coffee. This was some of the worst coffee I have had in a while. It was NOT worth the wait! On the way out, I simply asked if we could get some cream or milk or anything to put in the coffee, to lighten it up. Rather than accommodating us, the boy behind the counter started to grumble and groan, when we asked for cream or milk to add to the coffee. What I should have said was: “This coffee is terrible! Can we put something in it?” I set the coffee on the front counter and I told him that if he was going to give us a hard time, then I would just go to the coffee shop across the street. That is exactly what I did. I went to the coffee shop across the street and it was Great!
Miles, Audrey, and Ireland were amazing staff to welcome us and make us a fantastic breakfast and a fresh pot of hot drip coffee for me and a fantastic cold dirty Chai latte with almond milk and espresso for my wife. The banana bread was delicious. My wife had the homemade granola with yogurt and banana. I had the breakfast burrito with avocado and bacon added. Fantastic!!! Casual, order at counter, lots of seating available! We will be back!
Terrible food, service, owner. Sourdough upcharge is $3 and bread was served doughy, not toasted. Owner argued that bread was toasted for the entire time the food was cooking. (20+minutes for a egg and bacon sandwich) She insisted the bread was toasted even though it had no toast marks and could be squished like playdough. Also had a side of chicken($4) that was a not even full ramkin. 6 very small pieces. Owner can not handle feedback, instead is defensive and argues with customers. I did not even ask for a refund and truly just wanted to make her aware of the lack of quality in food she's serving but she insisted on giving me a refund on the sourdough upcharge(3) and half refund of the side of chicken(2). She proceeded to tell me how much it cost her for all the food she buys and how it's all high quality while ignoring the fact that I paid nearly $30 for an awful sandwich, baby side of chicken and matcha. Honestly the matcha was the only redeeming quality of this entire place. Simple validation and compassion or APOLOGY would go a long way but unfortunately I was not shown either and that's why I'm making this review. Also reading through other reviews, I see I'm not alone in these feelings.
Today was my second time here. I like how casual it feels. The staff are friendly and they seem to really enjoy working with each other. Coffee is great. Breakfast burrito is great. Ask for Datil sauce. My barista (what a sweetheart!) was the same both days, and somehow remembered my exact order from the previous day. Quite a feat when you think about how many orders go through there. That means I was actually SEEN. Not just another order in line. I can't say this about some of the other coffee shops I stopped by in STA. Next time I'm in town, this'll be the only coffee shop I go to.
