I’ll start this review with the answer to the question most of you want; “Would I recommend Italy Tile and Marble?” No, I would not. I will provide a few of the reasons and a few pictures to explain why, but ultimately that’s the answer that matters. I hired them to redo my kitchen. From a price perspective they were roughly 30% more expensive than Home Depot. However, the idea of using a local business had value to my wife and I, and the big box stores are well, big box stores. Unfortunately we encountered numerous problems from the outset. The first set of issues were additional costs almost immediately. Once the contract was signed and the cabinets ordered, new costs popped up. This matters because once that deposit is paid, there is a penalty for cancellation. You’re committed. These were not “change orders” on our part, they were things that had been discussed at length and suddenly weren’t, “included”. The work itself took longer than expected, but that’s the norm for any house work, so that’s not the reason for this negative review. The core issues were: 1. Cabinet quality is poor, don’t take my word for it, refer to the attached pictures. These cabinets weren’t even the standard cabinets that they sell, they were the higher quality more expensive option. For comparison, they were considerably more expense than the Home Depot Kraftmaid cabinets. I had those Kraftmaid cabinets in my prior home, looking at the two, there is no comparison, the Kraftmaid are far better in every way. Their fit, finish, and material are all better. As best I can tell the cabinets from Italy Tile and Marble came from Cabinets.com. I make that assumption since they failed to remove the shipping labels from several of the cabinet boxes. This is by far the biggest issue. Once installed, there is no cost effective way to replace them without essentially redoing the kitchen again. Some of the cabinets are not square and the doors cannot be properly aligned within the adjustment limits of the door brackets. Another cabinet has a door that is warping almost half a centimeter. Finally, the shelves are so poorly finished that you need to be very careful wiping them lest you get splinters or cut your fingers. I can and will fix these issues, but should I have to after spending roughly $100K for the kitchen remodel? 2. A big part of the pitch at Italy Tile and Marble is that they do almost everything in house, they don’t sub it out. That was not what happened on my project. Virtually everything was sub contracted, and when there were problems, Sergio was quick to blame the subs. This includes the cabinet installation which is obviously a core piece of any kitchen renovation. 3. Communication, don't bother emailing, I tried from the time we started the project through the end to use email. That way there would be a clear record of our exchanges. Well, they aren't big on email. One example, a month before the project started I asked in email that the cabinets being removed be placed in the garage and left there. They were not, they were disposed of instead. Sergio managed to find two of them and brought them back, but the rest were gone. Other information he needed, like installation manuals for appliances were emailed in advance, but never seen or reviewed. The one area they don’t sub, and did do a great job on was the drywall. The sons did that work and they did an excellent job. I did read their reviews and even viewed one of their completed projects in person before starting this project. If I had to guess, they do good bathroom, tile, and drywall work, but kitchens, not so much. Good luck with your project.
We were undecided on what backsplash to choose. We picked like 5 and the owners Patricia and Sergio brought them to our home and helped us decide. The results were more than we could have wished. The pattern was perfect and the installation workmanship was beyond perfect. We are so pleased with the results and actually enjoyed the experience with the owner/caring experts that went above and beyond to ensure our vision was realized. Highly recommend them for their expertise, knowledge and professionalism. Many many thanks.
We were hunting for distinctive tile for our master bathroom and didn’t find anything at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Then we visited Italy Tile & Marble in St. Augustine Beach and were impressed by their upscale selection. Patricia showed us several beautiful mosaics and large-format porcelain that matched our color scheme perfectly. She confirmed pickup in three to four days—and everything was ready exactly when she said. Highly recommend this shop if you want a special, high-end tile look. — Kevin & Elyse, St. Augustine Beach
Doing business at Italy Tile & Marble has been a pleasure. Sergio and his family have practically renovated every square inch of my condo in stages. We started out by replacing tile floors, and they did such a good job that we kept hiring them to rebuild closets, replace kitchen counter and finally completely renovate two bathrooms. They were responsive, efficient, timely and friendly. Best of all, their work was impeccable. I am proud of the work they have done in my home, and I do not hesitate to recommend them to others. Thank you to Sergio, Patricia and sons. You were great!
Top-rate quality workmanship and reasonable price for our Vilano Beach home. I am a St Augustine real estate broker and my husband is a combat, veteran Marine and we've had some unfortunate experiences with a few local contractors. However Italy Tiles and Marble far exceeded our expectations from start to finish. Sergio communicated the schedule every day, they worked fast and efficiently, cleaned up after themselves, and were friendly and pleasant to work with. We were able to go to work and leave them in our home without any worries. The quality workmanship far exceeded our expectations and we highly recommend them to our customers, friends, family and anyone wanting a nice finished bathroom, kitchen, or flooring. They have a nice selection of tiles at reasonable prices and take pride in their work. The exceeded our expectations on both bathroom remodels.
