Guana River Wildlife Management Area is one of those places that still feels like old Florida. Miles of trails wind through marsh, pine flats, and along the river, and no matter how many times we go, there’s always something new to see. It’s perfect for hiking, biking, birding, or just getting out and clearing your head. What really makes this place special is the atmosphere. In some spots, you can actually hear the ocean waves crashing through the trees, even though you’re surrounded by wild, untouched land. It’s quiet in the best way—no crowds, no noise—just wind, water, and wildlife. The trails are well maintained but still feel natural, not overdone. You’ll see birds, deer, and all kinds of coastal wildlife, and every turn feels like a glimpse into what Florida used to be before everything was built up. If you’re looking for a place to slow down, stretch your legs, and experience the real Florida coast without the chaos, Guana River WMA is a gem. One of our favorite spots for getting outside and resetting. 🌾🌊🌲
This particular trailhead entrance is the same road you would take to get to the Guana Dam. You just drive farther down, and there will be a parking lot. There is a small fee to park, but it offers bathrooms, picnic tables, and a water fountain. Not to mention, the trail map is epic. Very detailed, thank you 👍. There are endless trails to walk, bike, or run. You could end up at the water or a viewing deck. We saw multiple turtles, birds, and armadillos. Be sure to bring lots of bug spray and water. Only parts are shaded, so bring sunscreen as well.
I love accessing this preserve at the Roscoe Blvd. parking area. There are many great mountain biking opportunities here with the most beautiful and diverse terrain in the area. If you want to see the real Florida this is the place! Several distinct coastal environments can be enjoyed with lots wildlife to enjoy. Be prepared for insects in warmer months and always bring plenty of water. This is also a great place to bring newcomers and introduce them to the natural beauty of the area.
Great walk today! We did the yellow trail and it was perfect with kids ages 4 and 9. We saw deer and fiddler crabs along the way. Lots of shade. Trails were marked well. Nice place. We will be back!
This is a magical place. Hiking among the marsh and Lake and then spending lunch looking for shark teeth on the beach. The great place for family or just spending the day alone away from the hustle and bustle to unwind and just enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer. Great biking area. if you can ignore the sound of automatic weapons The song of the birds will take you away.
