I had an excellent day biking at Gourd Island. The sounds of nature and the birds made me feel wild and free. Totally recommended!

This is a fantastic space offered by the St John’s Water Management District in range of Jax, Clay, and St John’s residents. It is easily found but parking is limited. Go early go often It is a great way to get a four mile or less hike completed with verve. It is an old oak and pine hammock densely filled and home to several wetlands though not too wet. Rainy days may make it more so. It is known as a White to Red Trail and the blazes are seen easily. What everyone will like is the QR code will give you a map. More importantly b4 you go download Avenza Map App. This will allow you to use the SJWM park map to know exactly your location in the park. We felt secure and knew how to manage our rest and water resources. Walk on, ya’ll.
We parked there and too a hike on the trail, came back and our van was broken into and my wife’s pocket book and wallet was stolen. Windows were busted. Terrible. We won’t return, police will come and do a report, that’s about it. Ruined our hike and I won’t return, too dangerous.
This is where one goes to HIKE. A rough forest vibe but you can do a coupla miles & get your steps in. Off the beaten track yet just a few minutes from a main thoroughfare. Trail is easy (flat) & once you're in, you're IN. THE. WOODS!
Something cool! Like a huge forest in the heart of a city. Nice spot for a walk or run! Trails are easy to follow.
