This is one of my favorite places to paddle board! The winds were 10+ but it was still a great day! Busy on weekends, super quiet and peaceful during weekdays. Love to paddle around the Fort.
The whole fort experience and boat ride is about 45 minutes. That may seem short, but the fort is very small. 45 minutes is plenty of time to do everything. We arrived in Monday around 9 to get the 9:30 ferry tickets. Tickets were almost gone so you may want to arrive 45 minutes before the next boat. Tickets are free but you still need to go to the shop to pick them up. There are no bathrooms or water at the fort so be prepared. At the fort, there is an 8 foot ladder to climb to the top lookout (optional), so be prepared. There is also 2 trails that are about 15 minutes long. There also bathrooms and soda machines near the shop.
This parking is for inlet beach access. Fort is in view. Fun and safe for littles. Shallow for a good distance and water is pretty calm. Bird and crab watching delighted grandkids. Bonus, portable toilets have been added at the parking area. Pedestrian crossing lights are being installed which will allow safer access from east and west parking and beach areas.
Beautiful spot for a day on the beach! Easy walk-in, and gorgeous views. We even saw dolphins! Good spot for fishing, hanging out, or just sightseeing. Enjoyed watching the fog and tide roll in. Also saw several jellyfish. Be aware - while this spot has a leash requirement, there were more dogs off leash than on - but all were respectful and did not approach us without permission.
First time visiting this park. Not too crowded - plenty of space between visitors. There are no restrooms- but they have several porta-potties available. (Not too bad) - bring your own tp just in case. ;) Limited parking here so get there early. Overall a pretty spot, but you’ll be schlepping all your beach gear down a boardwalk to get to the beach. It’s worth it though. Very pretty spot.
