I don’t really think this place is my vibe. My friends loved it, but I personally thought it was okay. The guacamole was made fresh right in front of us. That was a very fun experience! My friends absolutely loved the guacamole and highly recommend it. The queso was really good. It was a little thicker than I prefer, but the flavor was great! The tortilla chips looked seasoned, but they were actually lacking in flavor in my opinion. I got the chicken tacos, and they were okay. I would’ve liked some lettuce to go on tacos to bring freshness to the meal. Without any lettuce, the tacos were quite heavy, and I couldn’t even finish my second one. Our server was nice and attentive. Our food came out relatively quickly. I will say the tables are too small for the size of some of the plates and bowls. It made it a bit hectic to eat and drink. Overall, I would rate Flying Iguana a 3.85.
The service was very bad. Our waitress did not address us for 15 minutes after being sat, despite the fact that she walked past us at least 5 times to address the tables next to us. The inside of the restaurant is nice, but it is extremely loud. They play good music but it’s too loud because it’s hard to hear others talking. Also, the set up of the seating is very crowded; my boyfriend and I were seated at a table where we were directly next to another table (not even enough space between the tables for our waitress to walk by) and we could both hear each others conversations quickly. The food was decent. We got the empanadas, which were good but they weren’t really traditional empanadas. I liked my tacos. They were pretty big and flavorful. I got the Baja fish taco and the junkyard (pictured). The plantains were good as well, I liked the cheese on them. My boyfriend said his tacos were average but said the crispy pork belly taco was interesting and refreshing because it has watermelon in it
We ate around 1130 am on a Friday so it wasn’t crowded and the service was fantastic. Our waiter gave us recommendations all of which were delicious. My husband has the chicken and steak tacos. I had the Baja fish and blackened shrimp tacos. The kids had chicken tenders and chicken tacos. And naturally had to try the queso (with toppings on the side for the kids) and margaritas.
Came in for a quick bite and drinks. Decided to sit on the patio which had a nice view. We tried a pork belly taco with watermelon which was very interesting yet tasty. I will say the pork belly was a bit too overcooked. The Peruvian ceviche flavor was on point! Would suggest a spicy sauce or some kind of chips to go along with it. The only thing I suggest is better team work, our server was new and it did take him a little longer than expected for our drinks.
We had a wonderful dinner at the Flying Iguana in Neptune Beach. The food was incredibly fresh and full of flavor. We ordered the Peruvian beef rice bowl, the Junk Yard taco, the blackened shrimp taco, and a beef taco—each one was delicious and perfectly prepared. The wait staff was superb—friendly, attentive, and professional without being overbearing. The atmosphere inside was relaxed and inviting, and while there were TVs showing sports, they weren’t overwhelming or distracting from the dining experience. We chose to eat indoors, but the outdoor seating looked lovely as well. This is a great spot for flavorful food, excellent service, and a comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommend!
