Really grateful for this practice. The psychologists and therapists we’ve worked with do a wonderful job with thorough evaluations and therapy. We’ve seen so much positive growth in our child over the last year. Also, big shout-out to the front office staff - they communicate well - especially through the patient portal.
In my long and colorful life, I have been to a variety of medical professionals. This includes mental health professionals, the brain's being an important part of medical well-being. I've been to some pretty mediocre mental health care places, but none as downright bad as Florida Psychological has become. Over five years my particular professionals were magnificent, so I overlooked the shoddy practice where they worked. These are my observations from 2021-2026: The WAITING ROOM is very small. Speaking with the front desk manager was not private and I felt a gross violation of HIPAA. Now there is not FRONT DESK, with self-check-in being the standard. Okay. Stores are doing this now, so whatever. My THERAPIST has been seriously helping me deal with a condition that I have had and will have my entire life. She is exceptionally empathic, friendly, capable, and caring. I left on Thursday and received a phone call on Tuesday that she was gone and they could schedule me with another. THIS GROSSLY VIOLATES SEVERAL ETHICAL PRINCIPLES IN MENTAL HEALTH CLINICAL PRACTICE. Now I learn that my MEDICATION MANAGER is no longer available to me. Why not, and why didn't anybody tell me? Who does this? I've been on the same medications for decades and with this manager for 5 years. What do I do now? I don't know why this practice is operating this way, but it sure does not care about its clients if it will leave me wondering who to see and what to do next. Should I just let them move me around to new professionals like we are all interchangeable parts? No, this would expose me to their unethical practices once again. I'll get by. If this is the only place you can go, you will be okay. It is a place that is conveniently located and you can overlook a lot when you are in need. I've had good care for nearly five years. Just know that the leadership will burn its professionals and clients when it sees the need.
We have had nothing but an amazing experience with this group. Particularly a few superstars known in the industry: Sara Davis, who is a thorough and stellar diagnostician. She was the first step in evaluating, diagnosing and presenting a treatment plan for both of my children who had very different needs. As for therapy, my teen used to see Maya, who was a gift. While she was just launching her career, she was highly intelligent, very likable and savvy. So we were bummed when she left for job growth. It's tough for a teen to switch things up with a counselor after creating a trusting bond. However, we ended up with the superstar therapist, Ashley. Ashley exuded this welcoming, positive energy which made my teen, and me, immediately feel comfortable. My teen (and I) love Ashley. She is an exceptional therapist and a perfect fit as my teen navigates middle school & all the big emotions that happen at this stage in life. Bonus, she has a small therapy dog in her room! Finally the Psychiatry PA, Casey, knows his expertise. He will educate you and discuss his thought process on medications as he walks through what is best IF meds are even needed. And if that is the route, he starts small as he identifies the best prescription fit. He will speak directly to the kids asking questions on how they feel in scenarios and will advise them what to pay attention to while taking the medicine. We have had an incredible, ongoing experience over the last year and a half and thankful they are close by!
The phycologist's there are great and they also have two office dogs that the kids love. We haven't gotten to attend one yet but I found out that they have different camps to help your child cope with different things with other children with similar difficulties. The down side is noone ever answer's a phone call and hardly ever returns one even if you leave a message. Warning, the Maps will take you to the wrong building so just circle around it and you'll find their office on the back side by a pond.
Place is very difficult to find, so here's my FYI. It's in the back of an elder care center. Smaller building with 2 small signs in the widows. There are 2 offices, this is their main office. If you are looking for their secondary office, it is off of Normandy Village Parkway.
