Most of the one stars here are from people who don’t know how insurance works. Being cancelled for claims costs, likely they’re no longer writing in your county. Your neighbors insurance with this company didn’t pay for your damage, your neighbor probably didn’t do anything wrong to cause your damage. They don’t cover flat roofs, that’s your agent’s fault not the insurance company. They won’t let you cancel? Nonsense. They’ve been around since 1992 and will bend over backwards to pay your claim if it’s owed. Florida is probably the most difficult state to find homeowners insurance. Do your research.
I am a veteran of the US military, I was looking to get insurance on a house in Florida, they claimed I didn't qualify due to my last insurance claims with another company. Seeing how yall probably just became an insurance company or never heard of Hurricane season... Hurricanes do come through and damage houses and properties. But seeing how your company only wants to take people's money and not do what you're supposed to do, which is the only reason someone would get you as their insurance company. But I am glad I didn't qualify for your company because after reading the reviews, this company isn't fit or worthy of me being their customer.
We have only been with Florida Family since Nov 2019 and this was only because the last company we were with filed Chapter 11. In January we had to file a claim because water started leaking like a waterfall through our garage ceiling coming from one of our upstairs bathrooms. We were very pleased that an insurance adjuster came to our house and explained everything to us, however that was the extent of anything positive from them. They sent us a check so that we could start repairing the damage. We then received a letter within 3 weeks telling us that they were cancelling our policy. They included photos that we do not know when they took, instead of focusing on the damage from the claim. They put a picture of the fence and said it was old (which by the way we told the insurance adjuster when he was here that we had a company coming to install a new vinyl fence in the next couple of days and it has been installed), they included a picture of some rotten wood on the outside of our home, they said that the shed had rust on the roof, and that the garage ceiling had areas that looked like they had prior damage (part of this was an area that would need to be fixed from the claim that was filed.) We never received a call from anyone, only a letter giving us about 2 1/2 weeks to find another insurance company. My husband immediately fixed everything they complained about, except for the shed (which he was prepared to tear down if they requested). He then called Florida Family and told them he had made the repairs that they complained about - their response was that it didn't matter because we had filed a claim within 90 days of the start of our policy so they were cancelling us. If they were any type of professional company they would have called us with their concerns and allowed us a designated time period to fix them - we would have been more than happy to fix their concerns. It seems like it is getting harder and harder to find companies that are professional anymore - most are only concerned about their profit. WHY IN THE WORLD DO WE EVEN PAY FOR HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE IF WE CAN'T FILE A CLAIM???? We have been homeowners for a little over 20 years and in all those years we have filed 3 claims, one of which was because of Hurricane Charley, another one because a hose burst in our kitchen and soaked a good majority of our bottom kitchen cabinets, and this last one was because a dry rotted gasket that we knew nothing about and this happened after we had re-plumbed our entire house only 1 and 1/2 years prior. After all of this it sounds like Florida Family only wants people paying for their policies and never filing any claims. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
I will use another reviewer's words here: " With the market the way it is, a stable company that will be there when the time comes is what is most important." FL Family is NOT that company. Or at least, that is what I am left to assume after being a client for FOURTEEN years who has NEVER filed a claim and just received notice that my policy will be cancelled by September. I paid into this policy for YEARS and the reason they give on my notice is that there have been too many claims and an increase in claims costs in Florida. I mean, your company chose to insure homeowners in a state where hurricanes are prevalent. Your sole purpose is to be there IN CASE of damages so if you're going to take all this money and then complain when residences here need to access it, why even offer policies. GREED. Again, I have never filed a claim with FL Family and fortunately for me, I never will because I am moving into a brand new build next month and will be securing a policy with an actually stable company who stands behind their client when the time comes.
Florida Family will not allow me to cancel my policy. I now have two active insurance policies on my home because they will not allow homeowners to cancel. Instead they have made it intentionally difficult by only allowing agents to modify policies. Further, it must be done by fax, an antiquated communication mechanism. If you can't get in touch with your agent or they are on vacation then you are continuing to pay them indefinitely.
