I am always impressed when we go eat here. The small A framed building is charming and brings in a nice atmosphere. Also the patio is awesome during a heavy rain storm. We enjoyed the Hanger steak along with the Ahi Tuna. Both cooked perfectly. The cheese curds are the best I have ever had with a very light batter and not heavy. Now go and enjoy the food and friendly staff.
We came in close to closing time and were greeted so cheerfully. We were able to get a table and knew it would be a quick meal. Our incredible server Kelly was the best part of our experience with the atmosphere being the second best. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and specials for the day. She was very attentive, excellent personality and made our experience extraordinary. We chose the restaurant based on having a different menu. We ordered the fried gator tail which was a delicious combo of flavors and perfectly cooked. We also ordered the tuna tarare tower. We enjoyed the flavors though I prefer the tuna a little more chunky. I love onions, but the guac did have too much taking away from the tuna flavor. Just a small suggestion. For our main entrees we tried the special duck which was the most perfect duck I’ve ever tasted. It was cooked medium rare but had this nice Smokey and sweet flavor with a perfect little crisp to the outside. Whoever the cook was, knew exactly what he was doing. Hats off to the chef! The second main was Seafood Cioppino. It came with muscles, clams, shrimp, scallops and shrimp. The seafood was cooked perfectly with a nice flavor and not dried out like most places. The linguine was also cooked perfect. My favorite part was the red sauce and I don’t even like red sauce most times. It had a perfect balance of flavor, nothing too overpowering and a great balance with the seafood. To top it off it came with fresh ciabatta bread which was a great touch. We really enjoyed our meal and would return here to try other menu options. We each got draft beef and admired their wine menu though we weren’t feeling wine. Overall this was a great experience especially since we were a last minute customer. Thank you for a special meal and Kelly if there were more servers like you, we’d eat out a lot more!
We always drive by this little restaurant and always say we gotta stop and try it. Glad we decided to finally stop and try. Just FYI - Make sure you have your maps on because It’s somewhat hidden so you might miss it. 😉 Now for the review …. My first impression - it’s unique in its own way. When you walk in it feels like you stepped into a hometown mountain restaurant. Gave me some Maine vibes for sure. It’s smaller than I expected so it’s perfect for couples and small families. The servers were incredible and very accommodating. The tables are close together and somewhat small so you kinda have to sit elbow to elbow if you are a moderately sized person. Also since the tables are close together it’s kinda like you are “dining” with the people next to you. So you can hear everything they are saying especially if they talk loud. Which means be ready to talk louder 😂. I think it’s only a wine and beer establishment so don’t think you can order a strong drink unless it’s wine based. The food was excellent! It has its own flavor. It doesn’t taste like every other restaurant. The food didn’t have overbearing spices etc.. It tasted fresh and nice and portions are decent; so not huge where you leave stuffed. My son ordered the elk. I tried a bite and it was perfectly cooked not tough at all like some reviews have said. I had the Ahi Tuna and it was delicious. It’s a nice little place with a quaint home town feeling. I will definitely come back to try other dishes.
Good food, but the elk was overdone. We chose this restaurant because of the elk, and I even made sure the server knew I wanted it on the light side of medium rare... but it came out tough and medium. We started with the calamari with fried banana peppers! Sounded amazing, but the calamari was VERY tough. We both enjoyed our caesar salads and my wife had the ziti gratin with shrimp. There were plenty of shrimp, tomatoes and artichokes - and the pasta was perfectly cooked...but it was oddly short on cheese! As I said, my elk was tough - and covered in a sweet sauce (completely overkill for elk) that had no mushrooms. The crispy onions (they were called them shallots) were a good touch, but I asked for cheddar potatos and could barely taste any cheese. It's been said before, but do NOT sit outside unless you enjoy the sound of traffic. Overall, this is an interesting restaurant, but they do not deliver on flavor.
Our server Dave was phenomenal. We walked in and got a perfect table on the patio. It was beautiful and ambient inside but a little loud, so the quiet patio was the vibe we were going for. Appetizers grab dip was really awesome but definitely crabby and seafood tasting if you’re one of those. The soup of the day was some creamy curry seafood soup and it was literally the best flavor I’ve ever tasted and I will dream of it until we return. But the Caesar salads were out of this world like seriously we all just ate in silence because it was the best. My husband and I shared the 12 New York strip special with a sweet potato and it was divine and cooked perfectly, tender and drizzled in a delicious herby sauce almost like a gravy and went so well with the sweet potato side. My son had fried shrimp and they were also amazing! The batter was different and so crunchy. Huge shrimp! My daughter got the menu item with hanger steak and it was super delicious as well and cooked to her liking. Desserts were devoured and my wine was chilled to perfection. 10/10. Everything fresh and delicious.
