  We stayed at the Element in Jacksonville Beach from 7/1/2026 to 7/6/2026. The hotel was clean and well-kept, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the amenities, including the food, was great. The problem was some sort of disconnect with the housekeeping staff. We understood when we arrived that the room would be serviced every other day, so we expected that to be 7/3 and 7/5. We were in and out of our room on 7/3 so that the Do Not Disturb sign was up early in the morning, then we took it down while we were gone in the middle of the day for a couple of hours, and then we were back in the room around 3:00. The room had not yet been serviced, so we asked if doing the room was possible around 4:00. That would have made it after hours and it was not possible. That was not a problem for us. They gave us a fresh set of towels and put our room on the list to be serviced for the following day (7/4). The next day our DND sign was up until we left at 11:00 am. One of the housekeeping staff was entering the room next to us as we were leaving, so, as I was taking our DND sign down, I mentioned that we would be out of the room for the rest of the day. I am not sure she understood, but she did see us leave and remove the DND sign. When we returned late that night, we found that the room had not been serviced. The following morning as we were leaving at around 11:30, we took the DND sign down and asked the person at the front desk to be sure that our room was serviced that day, and we would be gone for the rest of the day. The woman assured us that she would tell the housekeeping staff. When we returned that night, we found that, again, the room had not been serviced. So, we checked out the following morning, and our room had never been serviced during our entire stay. There was no one at the desk when we left, as that person was helping with breakfast. It almost seemed like if we put the DND up at all, the housekeeping staff took that to mean not to service the room at all that day. If that is the policy, then it needs to be made clear to the customers up front.
