I signed a contract with Eric in January, 2021, paid the 1/3 of overall cost in February to open walls, install two doors downstairs and three windows upstairs. He didn’t bother to fill in the forms for permit application for me, but asked me to do everything for him. As a homeowner, I had to ask him questions to fill in the form and quickly let him pick up in February to submit to the city. But after a month he asked me for the paperwork. Fortunately I had emails to show he got them. So he found it in his “paper files”. One month was gone for that. In April we got approved. But he had to get the wall open by his mason guy, so we waited until August. His mason guy was quick and professional and finished his part in a week. Eric told me the doors would take many weeks to get from a store he chose. I told him I found the doors in HomeDepot. He kept telling me the doors I found were not permitted to be used in Florida. It didn’t make sense to me so I made many trips to HomeDepot and made him talk to the door department in HomeDepot and sent him pictures of the labels with the permit codes. Shouldn’t these have been done by him? But then the inspection failed because he didn’t bother to check with the structure engineer on the discrepancy on the drawing and what we agreed in contract in January. On February 1 I already reminded him to double check with the engineer before applying for the permit and that’s why we waited for two weeks. But it turned out he only asked about the windows and forgot about the doors. So he asked me to pay $300 more to change the drawing and $450 more for the mason guy. I disagreed but we settled with me paying the mason guy $450 because I felt bad for him. I made the second 1/3 payment in September and waited for the inspection to pass until October. He picked up the door on 10/6 and we thought it would take only two weeks to get it done as he told us. But it is April now, look at the pictures! Our room is not is still in construction zone and the fillings outside start cracking after baking in sun and soaked in rain. Ants were crawling in and birds made a nest in a hole he drilled for outdoor light. My husband sent him videos and photos but he didn’t bother come fix them. My husband had to tape them up! He came once a week only and 90% of those days he stayed for two hours only. He canceled many appointments and were hours late.
