Calain, my first Florida doctor, is very thorough, with great bedside manner, and she treats patients as intelligent people. I appreciate her thorough workup as a new patient—approaching retirement with no meds, very unusual, she checked for undiagnosed conditions. She personally called me with test results, too—how rare is that! Several neighbors have told me the same. I highly recommend her.
Dr Calain has been treating my high blood pressure for 6 yrs. It is stable as is my cholesterol. When I had Pneumonia, shingles and covid (not at the same time) She quickly prescribed the necessary medications and treatments that made theses less serious .
The unprofessionalism I experienced by Dr. Calain and Flagler Family Medicine was shocking. A clear example of abuse of authority by a physician. If you are considering Dr. Calain, please don’t disregard the other unfavorable reviews posted on various sites. I was abruptly “released" as a patient after a phone conversation with her nurse assistant after contesting their internal prior authorization policy. I opposed the policy of requiring an in person appointment as Aetna would accept a verbal prior authorization and I had seen Dr. Calain two months prior. I advocated for myself to avoid an unnecessary fee to this obvious, revenue seeking policy. I didn’t elevate my voice, use profanity, or demonstrate any egregious behavior. Lacking any professionalism or basic communication skills neither she, nor her assistant informed me of the “release” or the prior authorization not being called in after being informed it would be. Instead, my patient portal access was disabled without notice. It took me calling days later and being bounced around until someone reluctantly informed me I was no longer a patient. A directive straight from Dr. Calain, herself. Thankfully, I had witnesses who heard this interaction and affirmed my sanity. This clear abuse of authority as a physician is unacceptable. I have no recourse to contest or due process as the patient. Her rash and unfounded decision has now caused me inconvenience, delay in care, and unnecessary side effects. A physician may have the discretion to dismiss a patient; however, exercising that discretion based solely on a subjective interpretation of a minor interaction, without attention to continuity of care or procedural fairness, is concerning.
