  I would NOT recommend Attorney Jennifer Dickens based on my personal experience. Please do your research before retaining her. I paid approximately $10,000 in attorney’s fees, and after roughly nine months, my case had only reached a temporary needs hearing. During that entire time, I met Ms. Dickens in person ONE time—the day of my hearing. Much of my communication was handled through her assistant, and I did not receive the level of direct communication or preparation I expected after paying that amount of money. I provided an immense amount of evidence and personally organized an entire exhibit file for my case. I also had witnesses who TOOK OFF FROM WORK to attend my hearing and testify, yet they were not questioned. Meanwhile, my child’s father’s wife testified, and I believed portions of her testimony were untrue and should have been challenged. I was extremely disappointed that I did not feel those statements were adequately addressed. What was even more frustrating was that I was not meaningfully prepared for my hearing until the NIGHT BEFORE. At one point, Ms. Dickens also accused me of being “fussy” with her because I did not respond to an email. I found that comment dismissive considering the seriousness and stress of my custody case. After the hearing, she did not call to check on me or ask how I was doing. Instead, she told me she needed to leave to “beat traffic.” That interaction has stayed with me because I had just gone through an emotional hearing involving my child and expected more compassion and professionalism from my attorney. I understand that attorneys cannot guarantee the outcome of a case. My review is NOT simply about the outcome. It is about my experience with the communication, preparation, use of my witnesses and evidence, attorney involvement, and the level of representation I felt I received after paying approximately $10,000. I walked away feeling like I had done more preparation for my case than the attorney I paid to represent me. Based on MY experience, I would never retain Jennifer Dickens again, and I would not recommend her to my family or friends. Before hiring her, ask detailed questions about how often you will actually speak with her, who will handle your communication, how early you will be prepared for court, how your witnesses and evidence will be used, and how your money is being billed. Please do your research before trusting someone with something as important as your child and your family.
