Cowabunga Comics and Art Gallery

I'm very unhappy about the bait and switch they did when buying my comic collection. I contacted them with a Google Sheet of my comic collection. Kyle replied that he went through it "carefully" and indicated that $800 was their top end offer, hinged on 60 comics out of my 958 comic collection. With that in mind, I made the 188 mile one way trip expecting him to check the condition of the 60 comics in question and head back home. To offset any comics that weren't up to snuff, I also brought 1,000 boards and bags, which retail at around $200, 50 comic mailer boxes, which retail around $50, and around 4,000 Magic cards from the 90s, which, even if we say $0,02 a card, that's still $80. I figured the value was about $200 on top of what they already offered. Instead of Kyle I got his wife. After 30 minutes, I asked her how it was going, and she lectured me about how my prices were all wrong. This was my first indicator. If they had "carefully" gone through the list of my comics, they should have already known that what I had was different from what they would pay. I found this to be the case when I tried to get her to just do a bulk percentage purchase at the one hour mark. She took this as another excuse to lecture me about the prices I had listed. I tried to get her to simple use the comics she'd been through and apply the percentage difference to all of them so I could leave; she wasn't having it, so I gave up. After two hours, she finally completed checking all 958 comics against what she told me: "I know what they are." in a rude tone when I tried to explain the mailer boxes to her, and glanced at the other items, telling me that she didn't know Magic cards. While sitting at the register, I heard her typing on the calculator and say, "The comics and then all that Magic shit." Then she told me $600 was the best she could do because my prices were all wrong. After baiting me with a bigger number and with the only other option being to waste 8 hours of my life and money. (376 miles x the IRS's $0.76 a mile is $285) I accepted the deal, but I'm not in the least bit happy about the way I was treated. I would strongly recommend that anyone else be wary of their offers if you aren't local to them. Don't fall for the bait and switch as I did. *Edit* So after posting this review, the owner responded with this: "You are just an angry man-child throwing a tantrum. And if I ever see you again, you better have that same energy." I didn't call them names, I didn't threaten them, and I continue to be cordial with them, yet this is how this business conducts itself? I think his response shows his character better than anything I could have said, but I'll add be wary of them as well as their offers. They've indicated that they respond with violence when things don't go their way, so keep yourself safe and stay away.

The store is super rad. Part art gallery, part new comics, slabs, back issues. Swung through to visit while down in Florida fishing. As a fellow seller of funny books, I salute this cool store. The owner, Kyle, is an artist and we bought one of his paintings. He seems like a great dude, good to chat with. Swing on by (thwip!) and give this place a shot.

Such an amazing find! 💥 They have so many $1 comics and they aren't just the lame ones! They also have a ton of collectors items, lots of one of a kind prints and AMAZING art!! Absolutely love this comic book store. My brother Matt told me it was a must go and boy was he right. They have some pretty exclusive comics and great prices. Kyle the owner was really cool and helpful and WHAT AN ARTIST! You got to check out his artwork, holy S***. All in all what a gem. I'll be going back this week and as often as possible.
