Ive had some mixed feelings about Clay Behavioral since my son started. The main office has some work to do regarding following up with parents, especially after hospitalization but there are a few amazing gems at the OP location that have made up for it. The clinician who did his intake, Brittany, was amazing and makes a great first impression when seeking mental health resources. She explained everything so thoroughly, asked a lot of thoughtful questions and truly cared about the answers. She made my son feel so comfortable! She advocated for him when I was having some issues getting appointments as well! She helped me get in contact with another great clinician Sherry, who was a care coordinator after his hospital stay. She was super informative and incredibly kind during a tough time. Follow up is so important in mental health, it can be devastating to feel forgotten especially to a teen. Brittany and Sherry made sure he felt like a priority and im so thankful for their help this last month!
Would not recommend anyone suffering a mental health crisis to seek help here. Unfortunately, the hoops they make you jump through for medication management is beyond insanity. 3 therapy visits and then I can be referred to med management? For bipolar depression? It’s an awful policy, and quite frankly it seems like borderline insurance fraud to me. It's the only place within a 20+ mile radius that takes Medicaid. After wasting a month and a half of my time trying to get back on medication for a diagnosis I've had since | was 15, ALL medical records included, I was given the ultimatum to do group therapy TWICE a week on top of the therapy appointments. How does someone with young children at home and in school do this? Why? Because I have a medical marijuana card. My first appointment with Hailey Rottweiler was supposed to be 60 minutes long (9/2/26 @930am) and ended up being 30 minutes. I finally got an appointment with med management (9/11/26 @9am), I walked into the building, they took my vitals, and then walked me to a room with a tv on the wall. It was a virtual appointment, are you kidding me? I also expressed my frustration to Andrea Cutler at this time. When I went to schedule my next appointment with Med management, I was handed a piece of paper and told to call on 9/18/26 to schedule with her again. I’m sorry WHAT? The next time I saw this therapist, I let her know how I felt about the company and that no one heard me, my only goal walking into that facility, was to get back on medication. I also discussed that my last appointment with her was supposed to be 60 minutes long and was 30, to which she responded "treatment plans are usually shorter appointments" which is comical because the treatment plan I discussed with Amandabelle (8/18/26 @ 10a) ended up being 60 minutes. When discussing in detail about what a nonsense policy the company she's working under has, ect. I was met with her talking about subjects that were "morally wrong". She then asked "do you want to continue with med management?" Knowing I couldn't do med management without seeing a therapist or completing her referral for group therapy. Save yourself the time and the stress, find a different facility, and pay out of pocket if you must, it's worth it. Clay behavioral does not prioritize mental health.
I really admire Ms. Terri and Dr. Menges as they are always there for me to make sure I have the care I need. I cannot express in enough words how valuable they are to me. Along with Colleen. However, today I experienced something that I never thought would ever take place. The medical records department is very unprofessional, extremely rude and refuse to help. Social Security has sent 3 requests to the medical records department for paperwork to be filled out. After I received a call from SSI requesting that I reach out to medical records, so I did. Upon asking kindly to please fill this out for SSI, she verbally attacked me and told me to get on my meds and when Im feeling better to call her back and hung up on me. Then I called her back and she called the police on me for harassment. Since when does Medical Records run this facility? Why am I being informed to take my meds by a non-doctor and then hung up on because she did not want to be bothered with filling out time sensitive paperwork. This is the 2nd time this has happened with the same medical records employee. First, I lost my job because she refused to fill out FMLA papers. Now she is refusing to fill out SSI paperwork. Is this legal? Oh, and to top it off I was physically attacked in the parking lot and I had to call 911 for help as the staff did not get involved until I called. Ms. Terri & Dr.Menges are amazing and now because of the medical records employee it's up to her if Im permitted to continue to receive much required services. This is an outstanding facility, only a few staff members need to be replaced as they do not belong and are only there to take advantage of people who need help.
Probably will never happen but I would strongly like an apology from med management for traumatizing me with a baker act last year when they dropped the ball on refilling my medication that led me to having another insomnia/psychosis episode that led me to make an emergency appointment, called me unstable, didn’t know the counselor that said she has reached out numerous times about the refills and they work in the same building. Chris said no handcuffs and they put me in handcuffs, let me tell you before you ever do this to another patient again first of all, do not, second of all, never ever send them to OP hospital, it’s a run down prison. I cried the entire time: begging for someone to help me with a wrongful baker act in my eyes. You know what happened to me after that? I literally couldn’t feel anything for almost a whole year, I was unable to cry because of the trauma you inflicted on me. So when you drop the ball on your patients don’t make them pay the price for it.
I’ve been coming to Clay Behavioral for some time now, and when I first started, it truly felt like a great facility. You could tell certain staff members like Terry and Dr. Mengi genuinely care about their patients and take pride in what they do. They want to see people succeed in recovery, and that meant a lot to me. Unfortunately, lately there have been changes that are very concerning. It seems like new policies are making it more difficult for patients especially those serious about their sobriety to access treatment and medication. This week alone, I was turned away from my appointment for being just 9 minutes late due to heavy traffic on Blanding, where state troopers were conducting a speed trap. As a single mom who prioritizes recovery to care for my family, this was incredibly frustrating and discouraging. I had already checked in and was in the process of paying my copay when I was told I would not be seen. As a result, I went without my medication for three days. Today, I arrived early for my rescheduled appointment, only to sit in the waiting room for over three hours as I write this review still waiting. I had to take time off work for this, and the lack of consideration is extremely disappointing. I am strong in my recovery and thankfully did not relapse but my concern is for others who may be early in their journey. Policies like this could seriously impact someone who is trying to do better but needs consistent support and access to care. I truly hope the facility reconsiders how these rules are being enforced, because recovery should be supported, not made harder.
