I've battled anorexia for ten years. At times, I've appeared to be fine from the outside, all the while internally struggling and thinking there was no hope for a life outside of the ED. In desperation, I Googled for Christian eating disorder support this last fall. Working with my therapist and dietitian was helpful, but I longed for community and hadn't found anything in my area. I began attending the BYB virtual support group. Approaching marriage, I was feeling the stressors of major life change and even navigating the ED with my now-husband. BYB (and Amie specifically) has been nothing short of a miracle in my life... I have now stepped out in faith and attended the BYB Supporters & Strugglers retreat and the BYB intensive just last week. Here's the thing: I'm not spontaneous--I was a teenager before I even went to a sleep-away camp for the first time. But God gripped me through BYB's ministry and Amie's love and support made it easier to trust God when He told me: Go! I firmly believe that God has used the BYB support group, events, and community I've gained have to save my life and my marriage (we're five months in and we're fighting the ED and satan TOGETHER now). If you need help or know a lady in your life who does, I encourage you to get involved with BYB. The humble, godly love is unlike anything I've ever experienced in treatment. Amie has recovered and she knows what the struggle is like. She also is a beacon of light that God is using to spur me on, to remind me that I can recover. And by His strength, I WILL.
Charis Eating Disorder Care has truly changed my life. I have never felt so seen and understood.. Prior to my time with Charis, I was so hopeless and had been told by professionals that I was chronic and there wasn’t anything that could be done for me. Charis disagreed. From my very first interaction with Amie Shields, I was met with compassion, understanding, & care. The entire team at Charis is so loving and believe full recovery is possible. Because of them, after struggling for decades, I now have hope and am walking the recovery journey. They keep Christ at the forefront of all they do. This and the care I received at Charis have been so pivotal for me! Because I have learned the truth of Jesus and how to trust and rely on him, I am now able to let go of lies that held me prisoner for years. The love and care I received from the Charis team has helped me start to heal deep wounds I’ve carried from a young age. Thought, love, and intentionality go into every decision & detail at Charis. The team will walk with you through the painful, scary journey of breaking ties from the eating disorder. I’ll be eternally grateful to Charis! I am grateful for the excellent care I received at Charis House. After struggling with an eating disorder and OCD off and on for 25 years, I didn't have much hope when I entered treatment at Charis House. My time at Charis was not easy. I faced challenges all day long, and there were definitely days I wanted to give up, pack and come home. However, the team at Charis provided unending love and support. They kept me going in the right direction and held hope for me when I couldn't do it for myself. I'm happy to say that now, post-treatment, I am experiencing greater freedom with food and an improved relationship with my body. I am also more free from debilitating OCD routines. I would highly recommend Charis House to anyone seeking full and lasting recovery. They have changed my life to one that is much more abundant and joyful!
This is the most incredible ministry! Truly like a piece of God’s kingdom on earth. Even though eating disorder treatment is some of the most difficult and painful work a person can do, the team at Charis lifts you up through the Word of God and prayer. They are some of the most loving people I’ve ever met. They truly care about the individual. You are not just a number or a statistic. You are a human being and they treat you as such. Best treatment experience I’ve ever had. My life is forever changed! Thank you Charis!
