My family and I stayed at the Renaissance Hotel with Castillo Craft Bar + Kitchen attached. Our first night there we decided to pop over for dinner just because of the ease of access and at the recommendation from the front desk. First impression upon walking in is that it’s very sleek and modern with unique furniture and decor. We were politely greeted at the main desk and promptly seated at a booth/chair combination 4 top. Our server was very sweet, though, I can’t recall her name. We ordered drinks from their full bar and my parents got a smoked old fashioned and some sort of very bespoke martini - both of which were an experience in and of themselves. We table-shared 3 appetizers: wings, fried pickles, and the Brussels sprouts. All were incredible but the fried pickles were a best-ever contender. For dinner, I don’t even have words. We ordered a pappardelle pasta with ricotta and spinach, steak and frites, and the most beautiful meatloaf presentation I’ve ever seen in my life. The manager also stopped by several times and great conversation was had and he even personally collected our entrees to box up (because we clearly over-ordered for 3 people). We also stopped by the bar the next afternoon and received delightful service from the bartender then, as well (again, which I could remember his name but such an amazing conversationalist). We loved this hotel and I know we will be back for a visit and will no doubt stop by their very well revered restaurant again and again. Note: this place can be a little pricey but it ended up being 100% worth it for the food alone…but the atmosphere and people make it even more special.
An evening at Castillo Bar +Kitchen felt like a refined escape in the heart of historic St. Augustine. Located inside the Renaissance St. Augustine Historic Downtown Hotel, the space blends warm elegance with relaxed comfort, and the service was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. We opened with cocktails that set the tone. The Smoked Gold Fashion layered Elijah Craig Small Batch bourbon with house-made simple syrup and bitters, finished with orange peel and cherry for a smoky, citrus-kissed sip that lingered beautifully. The Citrus Grove Margarita was bright and refreshing, built on Corazón Blanco with freshly squeezed lime and vibrant house citrus simple syrup, balanced with agave for a clean, sunlit finish. Starters arrived and impressed immediately. The crab cakes were delicately crisp outside with sweet, tender crab inside, paired with a creamy spicy remoulade that added gentle heat. The Castillo shrimp cocktail elevated the classic with plump chilled shrimp, bold datil pepper cocktail sauce, silky remoulade, and a charred lemon that brought subtle smoky citrus. Entrées carried the indulgence forward. The steak and frites featured a perfectly cooked, tender steak draped in rich port wine demi-glace, served alongside crisp truffle parmesan fries that were deeply savory and addictive. The dry aged duck breast delivered concentrated flavor and luxurious texture, complemented by velvety potato purée that captured every drop of jus. Dessert was a flawless finale. The chocolate mousse was airy yet intensely chocolatey, accented by tart raspberry coulis and delicate raspberry caviar. The key lime cheesecake was silky and vibrant with citrus tang, finished with graham crumble, pistachios, whipped cream, lime zest, and glossy key lime gel for a bright Florida-inspired close. From cocktails to dessert, Castillo Craft Bar + Kitchen delivers elevated coastal dining with beautiful ambiance and polished service in one of St. Augustine’s most charming settings.
If you want excellent food, cocktails and service then this is your place! Been here quite a few times for cocktails but just recently had dinner for the second time. Chef Bobby creates exquisite dishes with a perfect presentation. The first time I had the filet and the second was the Butcher’s block steak which was a New Zealand cut with the sweet potatoes and carrots. Both came out cooked perfectly! The cocktails are always amazing and I highly recommend trying the tequila old fashioned or the espresso martini. No matter your choice, Johanna and Graham make consistently great cocktails that will keep you coming back.
This is not a quick dine and out, this is a much better place. Sit for a while, enjoy the food, and the view of the people walking. When we went it'll, it was just two of us, but we got a surprise when our son asked what we were doing, then he and his children wanted to join us. The staff made accommodations and we were very grateful 🙏
Oh my oh my!! Don’t miss this gem of a place! The short ribs and meatloaf with an appetizer of friend pickles??? Yes, please!! We are tourists but if we were local this would be one of our go-to spots!! Excellent table service and calm atmosphere with an opportunity to people-watch! And if vegan/vegetarian is your thing, get the Brussels and ask for a side of Datil ranch… You’re welcome!
