I’ve been using Carithers for 7 years and they have significantly changed, especially when it comes to getting an appointment. It feels as though the goal is to not get you an appointment, to lessen the load of the doctor or maybe they just don’t need the money anymore, I’m not sure. I was able to get my child seen by a different office for an ear infection a couple weeks ago. It was a quick thing, he was diagnosed and we were on our way. After the antibiotic wasn’t working I called Carithers for a weekend appointment. I trusted Carithers and wanted him seen. I was reprimanded by the person on the phone for taking him to a different doctor. She was very rude. She then continued to ask me why I needed the appointment and how I knew his ear was infected. In my opinion, just give me the appointment and the doctor can work out the details for care. I’ve felt for a while Carithers is going down in care, and this was the final straw for me. We will be finding a new place of care for my 2 children.
We had such a wonderful experience with Dr Dal Porto. She is incredibly compassionate and kind from the moment she walked into the room, which immediately put us at ease as new parents. She took the time to listen carefully to our questions and concerns and explained everything in a way that was clear, patient, and easy to understand. We never felt rushed, and she made sure we felt confident before we left. She was especially amazing with our newborn baby—so gentle, attentive, and reassuring throughout the entire visit. It was obvious how much she truly cares about her patients and their families. We left the appointment feeling supported, informed, and grateful to have found such a caring pediatrician. The nursing staff was wonderful as well. They were friendly, efficient, and very helpful while getting our baby’s height and weight and administering vaccines. Their kindness and professionalism made the whole visit feel smooth and comforting. We couldn’t ask for a better experience.
Reading some of the negative reviews on here is disheartening. I feel fortunate that the provider we ended up with (just a roll of the dice when we moved here) is so amazing. Dr. Dudley has been so patient and understanding with our family’s unique circumstances. I am the kind of parent who likes to put my kids in the driver’s seat in their lives and listen to what they want and need. Dr. Dudley does the same. She listens to me, but her ultimate concern is listening to them. She wants to know how they feel about their health, their care, and their wellbeing. After spending a 20 (4 kids, my oldest is 20, youngest is 10) years as a parent trying to get doctors to listen to me about my kids, let alone them, it’s been like finding a goldmine. I can’t express in words how grateful I am to Dr. Dudley for her care and compassion. I really wish she treated adults too!! I will say that the front office ladies are wonderful but they seem very overworked, and overwhelmed. I feel like they need much more support than they’re getting, and probably just need to hire more staff to cover all the work that needs to be done.
We have had a handful of appointments at this office since my baby’s birth and each one has been fantastic! The doctors, receptionists, and staff have all been attentive, professional, and pleasant. The office is nice and clean. They have a well thought out system and we have never been made to wait long. They even gift us a book to read our baby after each visit! The attention to detail for my son’s care has made me so happy we found this pediatrician’s office for my baby! 10/10 would recommend
Formal Complaint Regarding Today’s Appointment Experience To Whom It May Concern, I have been a patient of Carithers & Carithers Pediatrics since May 14, 1986 — the day I was born. For nearly four decades, I have trusted your practice with my care and, more recently, with the care of my children. However, today was the first time I have ever felt that this office no longer prioritizes patient care, particularly for children, and is more focused on financial policy than compassion. I scheduled a sick appointment for my son at 3:55 p.m. and informed the nurse that it would be difficult for me to arrive exactly on time due to my work location on the Southside (University Boulevard) and needing to pick my son up on the Westside (103rd Street). I explained that I would do my best to leave early, but I wasn’t able to get off work until 3:15 p.m. At 4:05 p.m., I received a call from your office, and I explained that I was running later than expected. I was told that my grace period would be extended to 4:30 p.m. I appreciated that accommodation and continued to make my way there safely — it was raining heavily at the time, which slowed traffic significantly. As I was pulling into the parking lot at 4:33 p.m., I received another call. After being placed on hold, I was told at 4:35 p.m. that I would need to pay a missed appointment fee and call back in the morning to reschedule. I was extremely disappointed to hear this, especially considering that I had called ahead, kept in communication, and was doing my best to arrive safely with my sick child. After 38 years of loyalty to this practice — as both a patient and a parent — I am deeply disheartened by how this situation was handled. I know that in the past, under the care of Dr. Baker or Dr. Del Porto, I would never have been turned away under these circumstances. Unfortunately, my experience today with Dr. Andreae Shaw left me feeling that compassion and understanding have taken a backseat to rigid policy enforcement. It is incredibly disappointing to be treated this way after so many years of trust and loyalty. I will be sharing my experience publicly so that other families are aware, and I will also be seeking a new pediatric practice for my son’s care moving forward. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Vanessa Harbert
