To be fair, the issues we experienced really weren't the campground's fault. We rented a cabin because this is Florida, and with the excessive heat warnings, having air conditioning was important. Unfortunately, within the first 10 minutes of arriving, a storm rolled through and knocked out the power. The backup power worked for only about five minutes before that went out as well. The second day was better, although it was still extremely hot. The pool eventually had to close because of lightning, which again wasn't the campground's fault. Later that night, one of the neighboring campsites had a domestic dispute. It escalated to the point that a door was torn off a cabin, the police responded, and the power was out for much of the night. None of these events were caused by the campground itself. It was simply one unfortunate thing after another until we reached the point where we felt we needed to leave. The campground itself has a great concept. I have fond memories of coming here when I was a child, which is why I wanted to introduce my daughter to camping here. It's just heartbreaking that her first camping experience turned out this way. Instead of making happy memories, she's now saying she never wants to go camping again, and that's the saddest part of this trip. point that a door was torn off a cabin, the police responded, and the power was out for much of the night. Total BUST!! Will never go back!! Power outages through out our stay which meant no light or AC in a one room cabin is unacceptable! Not once but multiple times! They had a issue with other campers and the police were out at sunrise looking for a lady!! Cut our stay short and the lady asked how our stay was when I started telling her she was like "these things happen" She could have compt a night stay at least or offered us a free night if we wanted to come back! She acted like I was bothering her telling her I was not happy....
Beautiful hidden gem of a park 👌🏼. Quiet and not filled with people. Trails are well kept and trash free. The trails are of novice grade so nothing grandma couldn't handle. There is a few tree roots on the trail so be aware so as not to trip. Plenty of restrooms throughout the park and handicap accessible most everywhere but the trails. The boardwalks however are accessible. This park is great for nature lovers and birdwatchers with so many trees and a wide variety of them. Can't wait to come camp here!
What a Gem in Clay County Florida! Easy on/off from highway and ample parking lot. Ranger station with large chairs to lounge before and after hikes. Cabins and tree houses and tent camping available for a fee. Hike trails for free. Pet friendly and has dog poop stations, bring portable water bowl, you can get water at swimming pool area from sinks or water drinking fountains. Swimming pool is huge and 3’ to 10’ deep- open during summer, and there is a small fee to use swimming pool. Lots of toilets by pool area. Boardwalk out to Black river is excellent! Boardwalk back to tree houses is also quite nice. Trails need better markings & direction signs, we did find the last black/white trail map today during our visit by the ranger station. There is a small history museum that was interesting and this is open 10-3 only on Saturday, glad I came on Saturday! A young volunteer was working and he stood when I entered and was very pleasant to chat with. There is a small nature center next to this and there is looping video with audio that was interesting and sounded like Billy Bob Thorton talking, lol. But I doubt it was. There is a cool little pond with active family of turtles and some small fish. This entire park is well maintained and we will return for more hiking here for sure. Highly recommend.
I attended this place as a young Girl Scout and have just returned after many years. The development around the front of the park was surprising and made it initially hard to find, but keep going to the right and it is as lovely as ever. There is a great "Jungle Trail" that is an elevated pier walk, made with a sturdy material which won't rot away. This trail leads to a quiet and beautiful fishing location. The historic buildings are still present and the outdoor amphitheatre area is as I've always remembered it. There is a great kayak launch point for those who want to paddle on the water. Glad to see it's still a gem between the Fleming Island - Green Cove Springs area.
