I saw Brian Carroll in January 2026 for lumbar and SI radicular symptoms that started after a year of improper lifting cues at my gym. Symptoms improved some on their own, but never resolved — I had a persistent gnaw, especially sitting and at night. I was interested in the McGill approach, and Brian in particular — who better to manage my spine issue and coach me in weightlifting. During my visit he took the time to thoroughly assess my mobility, mechanics, and weaknesses. He was professional, approachable, and highly skilled. Afterward he sent an excellent report with a customized program of specific exercises he'd taught me during the session. This is not a passive approach to back recovery — it takes discipline to stay the course and not rush back when you start feeling a little better. Brian says, "Don't get greedy." I took that to heart, following my plan of exercise progression, reprieves, supports, and hinge mobility. Six months later, my spine feels solidly well. No radiating symptoms, no more gnaw, I sleep through the night, and I'm back running local races. Now I'm ready for the next phase: weightlifting, with Brian coaching me through it. If you're dealing with a spine issue and you're willing to do the work, I highly recommend him. That’s me, bib #851, smiling.
I had a disc injury in December 2025 and could barely walk when I first saw Brian. Working with him was the best decision I made during my recovery process. Brian is incredibly thorough, detailed, and knowledgeable. His physical exam was outstanding, and he took the time to truly understand exactly what was going on. He genuinely understands what you are going through because he has lived through serious injury and recovery himself. That perspective makes a huge difference. The plan he created for me was extremely detailed and practical. It wasn’t just “do these exercises.” He taught me how to move through every part of daily life properly in order to heal — from how to tie my shoes, how to pick up a gallon of water, how to sit in my car, and how to perform exercises correctly. Those small details add up tremendously over time and completely changed how I approached recovery. I went back for a follow-up visit last week, and now I have no pain at all!! We’ve transitioned into the next phase of exercises and performance goals with a very clear long-term plan moving forward instead of feeling uncertain about what comes next. That continued guidance and progression has been incredibly valuable. I also want to mention Bristol, his assistant, who has been amazing throughout the process. She is incredibly organized, responsive and detailed which made the entire experience smooth and reassuring from start to finish. Throughout the process, Brian provided amazing support, guidance, and reassurance. He gave me confidence that I could get better and helped me understand how every movement mattered. I highly recommend him and his team to anyone dealing with pain, injury, or trying to return to normal life and activity safely.
I've had multiple back injuries and issues from 21 years in the fire service and powerlifting. After dealing with chronic lower back issues for the last 20+ years I had accepted that I was just going to have to deal with varying levels of back pain, from barely being able to walk or stand up straight, to just being in pain every time I got up. I had to completely remove back squats and deadlifts, even with "warmup" weight, from my workout regimen as they would routinely aggravate my injuries resulting in me barely being able to function for days at a time. I reached out to Brian because I got tired of various daily activities, such as picking up a 10lb dog wrong, resulting in provocation of injury, sick days, and not being able to put my socks on. Brian spent about 4 hours getting a detailed history of my issues and physically assessing my back. As a Firefighter/Paramedic, I really appreciated his attention to detail during his patient assessment. This is something a lot of clinicians either don't have the time for or just don't really care about helping their patients. I was also very impressed with Brian's knowledge of the spine and its anatomy, he is a true professional and expert in his field. After 6 weeks of following the personalized program Brian made for me, my back pain is essentially gone and my back is as resilient as it has ever been. While I don't care to lift as heavy as I did in my younger days, I'm confident I could work back to it if I wanted, and will at least be able to incorporate squats and deadlifts in my routine again. More importantly, I'm not in pain every time I stand up. Thank you Brian, looking forward to my next follow up.
Working with Brian has changed my situation completely. After having surgery 10 years ago and having a new injury at the same level that had surgery I tried everything to enhance my situation. After some ups and downs I decided to travel from Peru to see Brian. Even though, I have tried the McGill big 3 for a while with no results Brian coach me to perfect the form, and believe me, it’s been a game changer. Pristine technique can help you a lot, bad technique can make you feel even worse. Brian wrote a report including other exercises rather than just the big three and for the first time in the last two years I had experienced a pain free day. I’m not completely recovered, Brian was very honest to make me understand that recovery is not linear, but having a day been pain free has showed me the way to complete success. Thank you Brian and Bristol for your cordiality and assertiveness, I truly appreciate it. I hope I can schedule another session with Brian in the future to design a workout program. But I need to became pain free first, I’m pretty sure I’m going to make it, my body is responding very well to the treatment.
My experience with Brian Carroll and Power Rack Strength was exceptional. I traveled to see Brian after dealing with a significant back injury and realizing I needed a more intelligent path forward than what the Physical Therapist, Chiropractors, Surgeons, and YouTube Guru's had proposed. From the beginning, Brian and Bristol made the process clear, organized, and professional. The communication, scheduling, consultation, and follow-up were all handled with care. Brian’s assessment was extremely thorough and specific to my situation. He did not treat me like a generic back-pain case. He took the time to understand my injury history, athletic background, goals, current limitations, and the emotional side of trying to work back from a serious back injury. What stood out most was Brian’s rare combination of elite-level knowledge, personal experience, empathy, and practical coaching. He has not only mastered the McGill Method, but has lived the recovery process himself and gone on to produce world-class results. That gives his guidance a level of credibility that is hard to describe until you experience it in person. I left with a clear understanding of my triggers, my current capacity, how to move better, and how to begin rebuilding without rushing the process. Almost eight weeks later, after completing my follow-up consultation, my pain, movement quality, confidence, and capacity have all improved in a very encouraging way. More importantly, my mindset has changed. I no longer view my back injury only as an obstacle keeping me from the things I want to do. I now understand that my priority is to become excellent at implementing the specific work my back injury requires to maximize my potential for healing. Brian was the first person to squat over 1300 pounds in competition, accomplishing a 1306-lb squat after what could have been a career-ending spine injury. He not only found his way back to living pain-free and returning to competitive athletic performance, but went on to break an all-time world record. That matters because his coaching is not theoretical; it is built from education, experience, and personal proof. I am extremely grateful for Brian and Power Rack Strength. If you are dealing a back issue and want a specific, intelligent path forward, I cannot recommend them highly enough. My only regret is not making the decision sooner.
