Bethlehem Lutheran Preschool

We were only at Bethlehem Lutheran for a short time due to a location change, but during that brief period my VPK child learned so much. He quickly learned how to write his name and started recognizing and writing letters, which was amazing to see. Miss Laurie was incredibly kind and truly loved each child like they were her own. I also appreciated how much time the kids spent outside and how they were always doing hands-on projects like gardening. We really enjoyed our time there and are grateful for the experience!

We've had 2 grandchildren in Ms Laurie's VPK. She has many many years of experience at this church teaching her VPK class. She is very professional and caring. She loves her students and her students LOVE her. As for the other reviews, all being added at the same time? I doubt that all of them had students in her class in the same session. She starts her lesson plans months before a new year starts. Ms Laurie is compassionate and attentive to all of her students. I understand a parent being particular about their child, but I've never heard or seen a complaint about her until one month ago. Our grandchildren learned all they needed to go into kindergarten, and for that we are very grateful.

Our experience at Bethlehem Lutheran Preschool was alarming, deeply concerning and the root of the problem was the director and lack of overall administrative leadership. A visible facial injury (a bloody lip) went completely unnoticed and undocumented, yet trivial behaviors were formally written up. Incident explanations shifted over time, including contradictory statements about the existence of playground cameras. Illness policies were inconsistently enforced, and explanations changed depending on the setting. When these concerns were raised, the director responded with defensiveness, shifting narratives, and accusations rather than accountability. In my opinion, this reflects serious failures in oversight, transparency, and professional judgment. Preschools caring for three-year-olds must prioritize safety, consistent supervision, and honest communication. Based on our experience, those standards were not reliably upheld. When my concerns were raised based on concise documentation they took it out on my son. Parents should ask very direct questions about injury reporting, supervision practices, camera monitoring, and leadership integrity before enrolling their child.

I absolutely loved sending my girls to Bethlehem Lutheran Preschool. Over the years all 4 of my kids attended and all of them enjoyed going. One child specifically was able to go from age 6 months through VPK she's 9 now and she still talks about Ms Laurie and asks to go visit her. My youngest attended another VPK program and unfortunately she didn't get the same quality education that Ms Laurie provided. I would have gladly driven out of the way if it wasn't 45 minutes each way. I would recommend this wonderful preschool to anyone in the beaches area or anywhere near the beaches.
