  I went to the ER with severe pain in my side and my bladder. I sometimes have kidney stones but a ct scan ruled them out. They said I had mild diverticulitis but my bladder symptoms were horrendous and I knew it was something more. I made an appointment with Baptist urology. I saw PA J. Bruland. I explained that I had been diagnosed with mild diverticulitis but that my urinary symptoms were so bad that I questioned whether mild diverticulitis could be causing them. I also had seen a blood in my urine. She showed me the ct scan taken while I was being diagnosed with diverticulitis and said there is nothing in my bladder. I asked her about the blood and she told me that sometimes when women get older they can bleed and she can write me a prescription for estrogen cream. I said no the blood came from my bladder and I am in so much pain and I asked her what else it could be. HER RESPONSE WAS A SHRUG. Then she said I like to see my kidney stone patients annually so let’s make an appointment for you. A couple of months later still having pain I saw a urologist at a well known clinic who preformed a cystoscopy and found a growth in my bladder that explains all of my symptoms. I have been looked at like I was crazy from all kinds of doctors, men and women alike. I had severe pain since I was 11 when menstruating. It wasn’t until I had a laparoscopy in my thirties to determine why I was having trouble getting pregnant that I found out I had endometriosis growing all over the place. I would have thought so many years later that we would have progressed past the reason a woman has symptoms is because they are all in her mind. It is sad and troubling that a medical professional treating another woman for pain can just dismiss her with a shrug. I don’t know if I had seen a doctor from this office not a PA if they would have done anything differently but this was a serious problem and it was diagnosed properly by a doctor elsewhere
