Extremely disappointing experience. The ER wait time was unreasonably long, and the treatment I received was unacceptable. Patients deserve to be treated with respect, compassion, and professionalism. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.
The children's ER was a great experience when I had to take my son about a year ago. However, the adult/regular emergency room. Worst experience of my life. Me personally, as an adult Ive been in the emergency room, maybe 2 times, but that was not here in FL. This was my first time. I live a few miles away and in the urgency of my issue, we drove here. I walked through the door in severe pain, got registered, they took my vitals, a urine sample and blood samples. Then they sat me in the freezing cold waiting room for almost 3 hours. My pain subsided, however I was already there and needed answers since this wasn't the first time this happened to me. I waited patiently and uncomfortably. I watched 4 people walk out because of the wait time. When they took my vitals they just asked "what's wrong", nothing else. No history of symptoms or anything. That was concerning. Once I got into the room, I saw a nurse, they hooked me up, finally asked questions. Told me my bloodwork was fine. Then they ordered an ultrasound. The tech came fairly quickly but then I waited 3 hours for those results. And when the doctor told me the results, it was quick and unconcerning to her, then when the nurse came back to release me and let me go, she told me something different. And my paperwork states different than what the doctor told me. I'm highly unsatisfied with my experience. I will never come back here. Now I am going to be stuck with an outrageous bill, with limited answers. Thankfully I have an amazing PCP who i will follow up with. But I have always had confidence in ER rooms until this visit. It's very disheartening. I was in the worst pain of my life and it took 6 hours to get answers. Biggest complaints: 1. Super long wait to get called back 2. Unconcerned staff 3. Care felt rushed but dragged out. 4. Sent 6.5 hours total from arrival to leaving 5. Unclear answers, differing information from doctor and nurse 6. The biohazard trash can was overflowing too. That was disgusting. 7. There was also visible blood stains in the room where my blood was drawn.
I don’t write reviews very often, but I’m going to make an exception here. There was nothing positive whatsoever about my experience whatsoever at this hospital. Frankly, there hasn’t been in a long time. My treatment by staff was by and large marred by disbelief, passed judgment, medical gaslighting, humiliation, and dismissal of my pain and suffering the entire time while dealing with a life-threatening emergency: from the ambulance ride all the way to getting discharged. I encountered only two people who treated me with kindness and respect: a woman who took X-rays of me and a kind tech named Roy. The past four or five times I’ve been here, it’s always been like this; and somehow, each time I visit, it’s more undignifying than the last. Empathy fatigue and systemic burnout is no reason, let alone excuse, to treat patients so rudely, passive-aggressively, and unprofessionally. But it would seem people here would much rather gauge your conditions using flawed heuristics or mental shortcuts and doing the bare minimum; all while disappearing for lengthy periods of time, even if monitors and machines are beeping loudly. I don’t know what’s happened in the past few years, but it’s no wonder why my cardiologist doesn’t work at this location anymore: no one there currently has any kind of bedside manner or empathy to speak of. You didn’t even look at my previous imaging. You didn’t even get my doctors right! You sent me home when I couldn’t even walk under my own power at the time. Even the last time I was here, I had an exposed, frozen ice pack placed — directly and unprotected — on my arm for five hours straight. Never once taken off. My arm was swollen and bright red for at least a few days afterward with limited range of motion. Yet, despite pulling stunts like this, most of the medical staff doesn’t have the decency to believe a patient that’s literally STIFFENING AND SEIZING UP, SHAKING violently right in front of them. Not only that, either. If my %SpO2 is reading at only 94%, then I am also under the effects of borderline hypoxia. With my other conditions, I’ve got heart issues and dysautomia already. But the staff can’t recognize those things either. There’s a lot more that happened to me that I don’t even want to go into right now. You all should be ashamed of yourselves if this is the standard of care and compassion you show to the patients who entrust their very lives to you — not to mention the families whom entrust you with their loved ones’ lives in kind. If anyone asks me about my experiences here, then I’m going to tell each person individually to never come here if they value their health and safety.
I called and asked if ER does MRIs because I ruptured my plantar fascia and apparently you need orders from a doctor to get an MRI. Person on the phone verified that yes, they do MRIs because they are attached to the hospital. I arrived and asked again when I checked in if they do MRIs because I needed one of my foot. Was again told yes, they’d be able to help me. Cool. 30 minutes later I’m in this exposed room facing 4 other patients, their medical teams shouting about their medical issues/history/everything. A doctor finally comes over to me and when I tell her I need an MRI on my foot for a ruptured plantar fascia and she says “oh we don’t do that here unless you are having a stroke.” So they lied to me twice to get me in the door to bill me/my insurance thousands of dollars for a doctor to touch my foot for 15 seconds before telling me they couldn’t help me. I kindly asked a nurse for a discharge papers after calling my primary care from UF Health to see about getting MRI orders. The doctor then came back out and told me I could leave and didn’t have to wait for any discharge papers?? So weird. I won’t be back. Waste of time and money. ETA: It’s been nearly 4 months and their billing company from India keeps hounding me with phone calls, emails, letters, and texts to pay a bill I’ve already paid and have proof of paying even though I didn’t receive any hospital services.
We took my child here for a concussion. The provider Dr. Brown did a visual assessment of my child but did not do a neuro assessment nor a physical assessment. From check in to discharge was about 25 minutes. As soon as we got back in the car my child resumed with an excruciating headache. We ended up getting an actual neuro assessment and care at Mayo. But Dr. Brown made a judgement to not do any imaging on my child without doing an assessment. I have spoken with Patient services as well as the medical director and the Medical director admitted they did not assess my child appropriately but no apology was made by the doctor nor patient services past saying “I’m sorry you feel that way.” We have had appropriate experiences at Baptist South ER and the main Baptist ER previously. This Doctor is dangerous without some additional training.
