Arlington United Methodist Church

So I went into the church and inquired about why there is a pad lock on the gate of Joy Park during listed open hours. I was graciously welcomed and given an explanation... that makes no sense. I was told the lock is placed there to make it appear that the park is closed, because they've had a problem with people sleeping there at night... Why would it need to appear closed during the day to deter overnight guests? City parks would have the same problem, and they don't pretend they're closed. What baffles me is that no one is requiring this church to offer this park to the public. Why not just close it instead of teasing a community that sorely needs a real park for kids because it's been overlooked by the city. It's my impression that the man who lives next door to the park is calling the shots and has essentially convinced the church to allow him to close it of his own accord. Maybe he considers it a personal invasion to have children (or anyone) making noise or being near his house. It sure feels that way when he creeps around out there and stares at you but doesn't speak. What a weird situation. I'm still giving the church 5 stars for serving the community so well in many other ways, but seriously, why is the maintenance guy running things?
